The different routes to the Amarnath cave.

The different routes to the Amarnath cave.

  • Pahalgam route: This is the most popular route and is considered to be the easier of the two. It starts from Pahalgam, a hill station in Kashmir, and is about 46 km long. The trek is mostly uphill and takes about 3-4 days to complete.
  • Baltal route: This route is shorter and steeper than the Pahalgam route. It starts from Baltal, a village in the Ganderbal district of Kashmir, and is about 14 km long. The trek is mostly downhill and takes about 1-2 days to complete
  • Helicopter route: This is the quickest way to reach the Amarnath cave. Helicopters take off from either Pahalgam or Baltal and land at the helipad near the cave. The helicopter ride takes about 20 minutes

The best route for you will depend on your fitness level and how much time you have available. If you are not very fit, the Pahalgam route is the better option. If you are short on time, the Baltal route is the better option. And if you want to avoid the crowds, the helicopter route is the better option.

It is important to note that the Amarnath cave is located in a high-altitude region, and the weather can be unpredictable. It is advisable to start your journey early in the morning to avoid the afternoon heat. You should also be prepared for rain, snow, and hail.
